Well today is our last day on the road, we plan to be back home tonight. It's a beautiful sunny and warm day too, so that's a bonus.
The journey home is pretty much I64 all the way, so I decided to see what was on my "want to visit" that was on the route home and surprisingly there were two covered bridges that I'd marked on my map that we were going to be passing.

Ringos Mills Covered Bridge is situated in Hillsboro, KY. When we arrived two motorbikers were sat inside the bridge keeping cool. We got chatting to them and they told us of another bridge just a few minutes down the road that we hadn't realised was there, so we suddenly just had to go see that one as well.

Historic Grange City Covered Bridge, also known as the Hillsboro Covered Bridge was built 1865-70 and measures 86ft long. It's recently been renovated so is looking in very good condition compared to pictures I've seen of it online. On our visit we also had the added bonus of seeing Eastern Mud Turtles sunning themselves on the river bank - that was a first for both of us! Whilst we were wanding around here the two bikers turned up again, offering us beers and chatting away, they were so friendly.
Then it was off to see the original planned bridge on our map, Historic Goddard White Covered Bridge. This 63ft long bridge can still be driven over - if you have the right size and weight of vehicle. Sadly, Wanda2 is too heavy and too tall, but there is a small area where you can park adjacent to the bridge so you can wander around and enjoy.

The bridge itself is a lovely one and the only surviving example of an Ithiel Town Lattice design in KY. There is a beautiful church in the background, which makes this bridge a picture postcard. It was such a pleasant day walking around enjoying the peace and tranquility of the area.
Whilst we were here we also met two lovely ladies, sisters 8 & 9 of a family of 10 siblings!! Turns out they were also bridge hunting thanks to a recent TV documentary. We ended up having a lovely long chat with them both, even directing them to Fred & Em's facebook page and gaining a new follower Sandra Hardwick and your sister, it was lovely to meet you both!
Then it was onto covered bridge #4. Historic Oldtown Covered Bridge, built around 1880 and reconstructed in 1999, this is again a very lovely bridge and one that is very, very long, measuring 194ft! Unfortunately the bridge is not currently open to walk across but certainly worth visiting and is in a very pretty, tranquil area too, so bring a picnic and sit on the riverbank and just enjoy the ambiance.

From my original plan of visiting two covered bridges we now had the good fortune of seeing four, so it was worth the slight detour and a welcome change from the monotony of driving on the interstate.
Today we even managed to get fuel at just $3.54 the best price we've seen in a long time, and before we knew it we finally arrived home. Hello house! Hello garden! Spring has deffinately sprung since we left, and the temperature guage was up into the 90°s for our final leg and it is so beautifully warm now.
Oh it is good to be back, and, as much as we love travelling, its always nice to return home. Now to empty and unload Wanda2, laundry can wait until tomorrow alongside the necessary spring clean, so we will be ready for our next adventures.
This road trip we have been gone a month, have driven aproximately 6,000 miles, & travelled through 17 states!! Virginia, Maryland, Pennslyvania, NYC, NJ, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Missouri, Kentucky and finally back our home state of West Virginia where this adventure started.
It's been an amazing adventure, filled with lots of memories and new discoveries, and we hope you have enjoyed travelling with us.
But for now, it's time for us to park up Wanda2 and focus some time on the continuing renovations on the house, whilst we plan where our next new life adventure might take us.
Road Trip Day 31 - today we've driven approximately 320 Miles.

Thank you for reading about the latest chapter of our adventures! Please do send us a message or leave a comment, we love to hear from our little band of followers. Don't forget you can also get updates on our life via our Facebook page here.
