How did this road trip all come about?  Well, Fred was going to be away in March in New York attending a HVAC conference, so I suggested that as we were going all that way why don't we make it a road trip and do some more exploring of the U.S.  Fred could visit the conference, then we can have a couple days sightseeing, and then we could go off exploring elsewhere afterwards.

So that was our tentative plan.... then I saw that Big Boy - the LARGEST, the MOST impressive Steam Locomotive EVER built was doing a coast to coast tour in celebration of America's 250th Anniversary of independance - Oh my!  It has always been our dream to go see this loco, but to actually see it moving, in all its beastly glory - now THAT would be something. 

 

So I looked at the dates, only to discover the only one we could possibly do was the 29th March, that meant we had to travel all the way from New York City to Cheyanne in Wyoming some 1800 miles within a week - madness?  Yes, utterly, but that's exactly what we decided to do.

This is our diary of this Road Trip, the places we visited, the places we stayed, where we camped in our RV and the fun and games we had along the way, it is a memoir of our time, thing can be too easily forgetton, this is our way of reminding us of the adventures we have had, but we also hope it will give you inspirations too!
