Road Trip March - Day 7

March 19th 2026 (Thursday)

Fred's at the conference again today so I've decided to go on my own adventure and catch a train from New York Grand Central Terminal to the New York Botanical Gardens as they have an orchid show on.  For anyone who really knows me this kind of travelling is a major deal for me to go do on my own and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for doing it!

The Orchid exhibit was AMAZING, I took far too many pictures but what a wonderful diverse range of plants on display, they also had a very large display of cacti & succulents, which I was very excited to see. Admittedly some of the plants in this section were not looking the best but they had a nice range all the same and some decent aged specimens too.

The park itself is very nicely laid out and would love to come back to explore it more "in season" to really appreciate the wide range of plants that they have here, and also to investigate the library.

Of course I had to buy an orchid as a momento; I chose a very sad specimen that was on sale that I'm hoping to nurture back to health, that and the fact I couldn't afford the prices of them otherwise! But mine certainly looks interesting and if I can keep it alive whilst we continue travelling and ever get it to flower its going to be a beauty!

The return journey back to NY Central Terminal station was easy, the only hard thing was working out exactly where in vast station building I needed to be to exit on the right street to get back to the ferry!

An erotic burlesque dancer

Tonight for our last night we decided to do something a little different and went to an intimate burlesque show with a more nude, rude, erotic twist. The show itself was incredibly well done, celebrating all things sensual and we met some lovely people, had a lot of fun and was a great end to a good week.

But now I want to get away from NY, I've had all I can take of cities, bright lights, noise, people, the constant traffic, horns honking & sirens, it's time we hit the road again and start our next journey of adventure.

Oh yes... Fred's day went well too! I gather the conference was enjoyable and his Q&A panel time was a great success. Its also been confirmed that he's been scooped up by the company we had dinner with yesterday, so he's now going to be teaching his expertise and sharing his knowledge to future generations of all things heat pump and eco living. A most exciting development to his visit and a perfect end to our trip in New York.

The skyline view of Manhatten at night was picture perfect for us tonight and we would definately recommend staying at the Skyline RV Camp Waterfront and paying the extra for the waterfront site and getting this amazing view!!
