Road Trip March - Day 3

Updated: Apr 20

March 15th 2026 (Sunday)

This morning, as much as we wanted to stay in bed and have a lazy morning, we didn't have time we had lots to do!!

Our first stop was to an antique shop, that we'd passed yesterday which had looked very interesting. What we thought wouldn't take us long to look around somehow we managed to lose two and a half hours here! There was just so much to see, unfortunately the prices of a couple of items we wanted were just not in our price range so we left relatively empty handed, except for 5 novelty ducks for Em's Jeep.

Next stop was the Pennsylvania Train Museum. This place is massive and turns out you really need to give yourself lots of time here as there so many different kinds of locos and carriages to see & explore. They have been nicely restored for viewing and well laid out with ample room to walk around at your leisure, with most areas wheel/push chair friendly. Unfortunately we didn't get to see everything or spend anywhere near as much time as we would have liked, our own fault for spending too much time at the antique shop earlier, so a return trip is definitely in order!

Then the last stop of the day was a return trip to finish off at the toy train museum that we'd visited briefly yesterday. John, our very helpful guide that we’d met and talked to yesterday, allowed us free entry after yesterday's quick visit. He even took us behind the scenes to back rooms where there was an abundance of so many more locos, carriages and an unbelievable and utterly impressive workshop - that I am totally jealous of!! I gather volunteers can come and help out on select days in the workshop. They also have an extensive library which is open by appointment, which he kindly showed us, even allowing us to look up a few items in their library!  Fred bought a new Marklin 2pc train set for my collection. Everyone was so nice and friendly, it was really good to talk with fellow enthusiasts and it has been an amazing visit - if only I lived closer, I'd be in that workshop ALL the time!!

Tonight sees us staying at French Creek State Park again as we didn't fancy travelling too far after all the excitement of the day.

Road Trip Day 3 - Today we did aprox 71 miles of travelling.
