This morning I'm still fighting the bug that has took a hold of me and I'm feeling really pretty awful, but the Cheyanne Depot Museum beckoned, which is also the home of Big Boy No.4014, the last remaining Big Boy that's still in operation. Unfortunately it was safely tucked away in the roundhouse being readied for it's tour so we couldn't see it, but we did manage to get a glimpse of its tender.
The museum itself is very interesting and definately worth the visit. Very reasonable entry fee with lots of memorablia and interesting stories plus artifacts, not only about Big Boy but how the rail industry grew and developed here but also how it is an integral part of the town. There is also a nice cafe located in the building and a reasonably priced gift shop too.
After the museum we headed across to Holliday Park to find the static Big Boy 4004 that is on display. Again a sense of awe of the sheer size and magnificence of this beast and the excitement is building, in just two days we will be able to see Big Boy 4014 rolling down the track - a dream both of us never thought we'd ever see!!

There are 7 remaining static Big Boys that are on public display, which are located in:
St. Louis, Missouri; Big Boy 4006
Dallas, Texas; Big Boy 4018
Omaha, Nebraska; Big Boy 4023
Denver, Colorado; Big Boy 4005
Scranton, Pennsylvania; Big Boy 4012
Green Bay, Wisconsin; Big Boy 4017
Cheyenne, Wyoming. Big Boy 4004
Yesterday we saw the one in Omaha, today we have ticked off the one in Cheyenne! The static Big Boy 4004 in the park where it is located is very pretty with lots of areas to walk around and a nice pond. As it was such a nice setting we decided to have lunch here, with the perfect view of Big Boy 4004 from our RV window - never thought we'd be doing that!
After lunch we decided to drive to Laramie, one of the planned stops for Big Boy 4014 on Sunday, so we could get a feel for the area, work out where the best place to park for our size of vehicle and be in readiness for the big day. Turns out there is a footbridge that crosses the many railway lines, one of which Big Boy is going to be coming in on - PERFECT!!
Then it was back to the campsite, for me to crawl into bed and rest as I'm utterly worn out and really feeling ick.
Road Trip Day 15 - we've driven approximately 110 Miles today!
