Road Trip March - Day 11

March 23rd 2026 (Monday)

Well we both slept really well last night, all those endless miles travelled yesterday obviously wore us out.

This morning we needed to go food shopping and restock essentials. Luckily a supermarket was close by. The one bonus with living in the RV means you cannot impulse or bulk buy as everything is space limited in the van, so that saves the budget a little!

The impressive St Louis Canyon Falls at Starved Rock State Park

Food bought, we were back on the road and within a short distance I found us a small scenic walk to do, to stretch our legs after sitting for so long yesterday.

Starved Rock State Park, would appear to have many worthwhile trails to do but we were short on time so could only do 1 and I chose St Louis Canyon Falls and it really was worth the quick walk and reward of the waterfall, though I am sure it is a lot more impressive after heavy rain.

Safely back at the van and it was time for a quick bite of lunch then before long it was time to burn more rubber, and get back on the road. We had some 270+ miles still to go to get to our campsite that we had pre-booked - we're also hoping to do some laundry at this campsite too!!

Finally we arrived at tonight's stop, a large campsite called Timberline Campground, in Waukee, IA. With nice facilities and the added bonus of being able to do our laundry, which was quickly caught up on. It was then time to chill after a hectic few days of alot of miles and travelling.

Whilst studying the information leaflet of the site, I realised we're not too far away from the covered bridges that are featured in the film 'Bridges of Madison County' a movie classic and they are just down the road!! So tonight's relaxing movie is just that and tomorrow we're going on a bridge hunt, to find the covered bridges that feature in the movie.
